DURATION: ½ DAY
This is an itinerary entirely conducted in the open air. Your AGT guide will lead you from the San Lorenzo quarter, which was the Medici family quarter, with the Medici Palace, which was one of the prototypes of burger architecture during the Renaissance period, and with the Basilica of San Lorenzo, which still shelters the family graves and two marvellous vestries by Brunelleschi and Michelangelo. Your AGT guide will then lead you to the Palazzo della Signoria, which is the headquarters of the city’s government and became a Medici residence towards the mid 1500s. The palace is still the symbol of Florentine politics. After crossing the Arno river via the Ponte Vecchio, the tour will take you at last to the imposing and luxurious Palazzo Pitti, where the Medici lived for about two hundred years until the extinction of the dynasty with the death of Grand-duke Gian Gastone de’ Medici in 1737.
