The tour includes Palazzo Medici, the splendid residence of Cosimo the Elder and the Magnificent Lorenzo, in which young Michelangelo was invited to grow up, as well as the Basilica of San Lorenzo designed by Brunelleschi. The walk includes a visit to the Basilica of San Lorenzo, the Palazzo Medici and a visit to one or more than one of the more notable Medici sites.
Museum of St. Mark’s – not far from San Lorenzo one comes to the Dominican monastery of St. Mark’s, rebuilt in the new Renaissance style for the Medici by their favourite architect, Michelozzo. The monastery has become the place in which to admire the works of one of the great early renaissance painters: Beato Angelico. The large chambers on the ground floor exhibit his altar-pieces and most remarkable panels, whereas the historical Library and the 45 cells of the monks, all frescoed by Beato Angelico and his followers, are on the first floor.
