Villa Poggio a Caiano

Villa Artimino

Your AGT guide will take you to explore the Villa of Poggio a Caiano, a Medici residence, that had been an ancient fortress and then country residence of the Strozzi family. It was reconstructed by Giuliano da Sangallo for Lorenzo the Magnificent, with the adoption of architectural elements inspired by antiquity. In 1587, Francesco I and Bianca Cappello met their deaths in the villa. There are spectacular frescoes by Andrea del Sarto, Franciabigio, Pontormo and Alessandro Allori and the building is the site of the Still Life Museum, with interesting paintings commissioned by the Medici for their country residence. Your AGT guide will lead you afterwards to the Medici villa known as the Ferdinanda, designed in 1596 by Bernardo Buontalenti for Ferdinand I. The mansion enjoys a splendid position, overlooking the old fortified citadel of Artimino, and is notable for its many distinctive chimneys.
