Masaccio only lived for twenty-eight years at the beginning of the fifteenth century (1401-1428), but in that brief space of time he managed to revolutionise the pictorial language of the period. Bernard Berenson, the famous art historian said of Masaccio: “Giotto born again” , who took up his work where death had stopped him. In pursuit of Masaccio’s work, your AGT guide will first take you to the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella to admire the Holy Trinity fresco, after which, you will be led to the Brancacci Chapel, a small area full of extraordinary frescoes that Masaccio started decorating in 1424. If you have time, your AGT guide will also take you into the Uffizi Galleries, to see two fundamental works: St. Anne Metterza and the Madonna Casini, also known as the Tickling Madonna.
