The great Hall of the 500 with its ceiling and walls painted by Giorgio Vasari with the Apotheosis of Cosimo I is truly impressive and the exquisite painting in Grand-duke Francesco’s little studio as well as the rooms of the Duchess Eleonora of Toledo are a succession of delights. The splendid sculptures by Donatello and Michelangelo are of great interest. One can also climb up to the Tower and access the archaeological excavations of the Roman Amphitheatre.
