The Pitti Palace is one of the largest in Florence and there 6 museums inside! Which is why you will need an AGT guide to show you some of the rare things it contains.
– The fascinating and magnificent Palatine Gallery is on the first floor. The ceilings are full of rich stucco reliefs and frescoes and the silk-covered walls are full of wonderfully rare paintings by Raphael, Titian, Rubens, Van Dyck and many other great artists. After which one comes to the Royal Apartments, where the Savoia sovereigns filled the rooms with furniture, decorative objects and works of art from the 16th to the 19th century.
–The Gallery of Modern Art on the second floor is a collection of paintings and sculpture dating from the end of the 18th to the 20th century. There is a remarkable collection of paintings by the Macchiaioli.
– The Treasure of the Grand-dukes (formerly called the Silver Museum) is on the ground floor, in the Medici summer apartments. The rooms were spectacularly frescoed for the wedding of Grand-duke Ferdinand II to Vittoria della Rovere and now contain the Medici Treasure with exquisite hard stone vases, cameos, rock crystal, amber, ivory and jewellery, as well as the Salzburg Treasure with ancient silver objects and the collection of Chinese and Japanese porcelain.
– The Costume Gallery is the first fashion-history museum to be founded in Italy. The items are rearranged periodically, to enable visitors to view the over 6000 costumes in its deposits.
– The Porcelain Museum in the 18th century Palazzina del Cavaliere, at the top of the Boboli Gardens, contains elegant examples of European production, such as Meissen, Capodimonte, Ginori di Doccia, Limoges, which used to be part of the tableware used in the Pitti Palace.
– The Boboli Gardens, the most famous Italian garden, created by the Medici, as an ideal continuation of the Pitti Palace, occupies an area of 4 and a half hectares. Statues, fountains, grottoes and rare botanical species, which include the vast and varied collection of citrus fruit trees, frame enchanting views.
