This tour is designed to help you start to discover the South Bank, a fascinating part of the town, which still preserves many of the town’s traditions. Your AGT guide will meet you on the Ponte Vecchio, which bridges the river dividing the North from the South Bank. It is at the end of the bridge, that the Oltrarno (beyond the Arno river) begins. Your AGT guide will lead you towards Piazza Pitti, to discover the parts of Florence, that are off the beaten track, and still possess its more intriguing aspects. The Oltrarno is full of craftsmen, markets, craftsmen’s workshops and contains true historical masterpieces of painting, sculpture and architecture. You will walk along Via Guicciardini, which runs parallel to the famous Vasari Corridor and your AGT guide will tell you its extraordinary and fascinating story and (when the church is open) he/she will take you into the Church of Santa Felicita, where you will be able to see the Barbadori/Capponi chapel, after which the tour takes you to view the imposing bulk of Palazzo Pitti. Your AGT guide will then take you to discover another aspect of this very special quarter, the typical aspects of Piazza Santo Spirito, where, depending on opening times, you will be able to visit the interior of the Augustinian basilica, appreciating its elegance and, above all, admiring Michelangelo’s wooden crucifix, which is still kept in the vestry.
