Tuscany is famous throughout the world for a wide variety of wines and foods, so why not get to know them with a local guide. Our Agt guides will introduce you to the most reputed wines, processed meats, cheeses, and, of course, our green gold: olive oil. The places where you can best discover Florentine food and wine traditions are most certainly our markets.

It is in the markets that one can see and naturally taste the most local flavours. Let us not forget that Florence offers a great many products for vegetarians, vegans or gluten free clients. All tastes are catered for. It’s up to you to choose the tour that will best suit your personal preference.

The Florentine Markets

Our AGT guides will propose a relaxing walk through the historical centre of Florence in search of the most important markets.  The tour will start in the market of San Lorenzo, housed in a fine historical building. This is where you will find a truly large number of Florentine specialities to taste, but the most striking is the meat! Florentine butchers exhibit all kinds of meat and most of all a lot of offal, which is one of the typical foods in the area. From here, your guide can take you through the historic central streets to get to the most popular local market in Florence: the market of Sant’ Ambrogio, where you will not only find all the typical products, but Florentine irony and jocular spirit as well.

Florentine flavours

The tour develops as one progresses through the centre of Florence, in search of authentic Florentine flavours, so one starts by savouring the olive oil, together with a good glass of Chianti, after which one tastes some sliced salted meats, and then one stops at one of the typical “lampredotto” stands to really understand this ancient idea of street food. The tour cannot end without a good glass of “Vin Santo”, accompanied by some “cantuccini” (biscuits with almonds) from Prato, or, if one does not like “Vin Santo”, one can enjoy a delicious ice cream from one of the historic shops in Florence.

Agt Firenze proposes solutions targeted at various types of tourist, that require specific care, both as regards planning the contents of the itineraries, such as, for instance, school excursions, as well as regards disabled visitors. If you require this kind of itinerary, we suggest you contact us directly so as to let us know exactly what kind of provisions you require, so that we can jointly plan your Florentine experience in the most advantageous manner.
