Piazzale Michelangelo, San Miniato al Monte and Cimitero delle Porte Sante

A guided tour that, thanks to the experience and professionalism of AGT guides, will turn into a pleasant walk to discover some of the most enchanting places in Florence: from Piazzale Michelangelo to the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte.

The tour begins at Piazzale Michelangelo, the most famous panoramic terrace in the city, offering a magnificent view over Florence. This hill was enhanced by architect Giuseppe Poggi during the period when Florence was the capital of Italy, to give the city new splendor and modernity.

The terrace honors Michelangelo Buonarroti with a monument featuring a replica of the David and the sculptures from the New Sacristy.

Next, your AGT guide will lead you to discover the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte, one of the masterpieces of Romanesque architecture in Tuscany. Rich in artworks, including the magnificent marble inlaid floor, the pulpit, and the Renaissance chapels of the Crucifix and of the Cardinal of Portugal, the basilica is a key landmark in the history and traditions of Florence.

The tour will also introduce you to the story of Saint Miniato, to whom the church is dedicated, and the splendid Byzantine mosaics that adorn the interior.

To conclude the tour, your AGT guide will accompany you to the area adjacent to the basilica, where the historic Monumental Cemetery of the Porte Sante is located. Designed in the 19th century, it is the final resting place of many illustrious figures who lived in Florence, including Giovanni Spadolini, Mario Cecchi Gori, Pietro Annigoni, Pellegrino Artusi, Franco Zeffirelli, Enrico Coveri, and many others.
