The AGT Florence Association brings together more than 150 licensed local tourist guides qualified to work in Florence and other cities in Tuscany, having passed an examination or completed a training course and passed the exam as required by current legal regulations.
We carry out the profession of tourist guide with competence and great passion in many foreign languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Finnish, Polish, Czech, Bulgarian, Serbo-Croatian, Russian, Chinese, and Japanese.
Ongoing training and education are a priority for our guides, enabling them to present the beauty and vast historical and artistic heritage of our cities from an original and unique perspective, tailored to the needs of visitors. They can also accompany you on food and wine tours, to discover ancient artisan workshops and local traditions in the most authentic Florentine spirit.
A tour with an AGT guide can become a special part of your holiday—an enriching experience and an enjoyable moment of leisure at the same time.
It is always truly rewarding at the end of the day to see our visitors’ eyes sparkle and to know that they will carry the memory of a journey, of our city, with them over time.
The Association of Tourist Guides of Florence is the local branch of the AGT Tuscany Association, founded in 1986 to protect and promote the profession of tourist guiding.
AGT Florence is also part of ANGT, the National Association of Tourist Guides, the first national professional association for Tourist Guides. ANGT is a member of FEG, the European Federation of Tourist Guides, and WFTGA, the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations, the latter being an official partner of UNESCO.
The association also engages in volunteer activities by offering free guided tours on special occasions. Annual events include International Tourist Guide Day and the Commemoration of Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici, Electress Palatina, who bequeathed the family’s heritage to the city of Florence. For many years, we have participated in the FAI Spring Days; among the special events, we remember the La collaborazione con la Soprintendenza nel 2003 e 2013 in occasione del decimo e ventesimo anniversario dell’attentato di via dei Georgofili, e la raccolta fondi per numerosi restauri, come il Museo delle Carrozze nel 2009, la Badia a Settimo nel 2014 e i busti degli Uffizi nel 2016.
The association ensures the preparation level of its member guides and, in particular, for the approximately 100 tourist guides that are part of it, regularly organizes update and in-depth courses, along with preparatory visits for exhibitions, restorations, and thematic itineraries, led by experts and top-quality scholars, often including the curators of the exhibitions themselves or the directors of various museums.
According to its Statute, the AGT Florence Association is apolitical, non-partisan, and non-denominational, and it addresses the issues of the entire profession:
