A very densely packed programme to explore Michelangelo’s works and the places he was associated with, starting with a visit to the Gallery of the Accademia, after which we shall continue towards the Basilica of San Lorenzo and the Medici Chapels. The morning itinerary, escorted by your AGT guide, will conclude in Piazza della Signoria. In the afternoon, you will discover the National Museum of the Bargello where one can view important youthful works by the artist, after which it will be the turn of the Buonarroti house, which is where Michelangelo had bought some house,s in which he lived between 1516 and 1525. The complex was reconstructed and transformed into a shrine dedicated to the artist by his heirs, who had the frescoes painted, celebrating salient episodes of his life. The museum contains Michelangelo’s very earliest works : the Battle of the Centaurs and the Madonna of the stairs. After which your AGT guide will lead you to the Basilica of Santa Croce, one of the most important and famous monuments in Florence, thanks to its architecture, Giotto’s frescoes and the tombs of so many illustrious historical personages. The church also contains Michelangelo’s monumental tomb, designed by Giorgio Vasari, in the sixteenth century.
